VA : it´s the name we (me and Nu ) have choose to call our colaboration , it´s our band / collective name.
We ve been collaborating since more than one year , experimenting with midi comunication , improvisation , having fun …
I think today we ´ve got something more serious going on , it´s still the begining but i´m very exited about continuing working on this project.

“Orbit” is our new project, it´s a journey into an interactive realtime audiovisual solar system ,
In this computer generated 3d world , sound and visual are synchronise for a full audiovisual experience. The graphics and the movement of this abstract generative system is driven by a deep minimal dancefloor beat with a strong emphasis on realtime interaction. Workshop and gig in Stockholm
In October , I was invited to the royal academie of fine art of Stockholm to give a vvvv workshop and participate to the Pixelvark festival . I was very impress per the motivation of the student , it was a newbie level workshop , the student where very exited about the software , it was a great experience.
I went to Sweden with my friend and musical collaborator Raulf fabian Laumer aka Nu , to perform an audiovisual act of 45mn. It was one of the first great experience of audiovisual experimentation , somehow today i´m getting bored of vjing and i want to go deeper into reel colaboration with the musician , more than random improvistion on famous dj. So i´m gona concentrate in the future into this audiovisual work…

Festival Scopitone , Nante , France
I have been invited to perform as a vj for the Scopitone Festival in september 2007.

I have enjoy the music but i was not super happy of my set , i did some mistake and the visual where not always really accurate to the music…
Two days after i played for several electronic artist , in a huge club totaly white with tons of light , an nightmare for visual, it was very boring …
Last night of the festival i gave some help to the digitalslave team with an nice video installation , playing with the architecture of the club, the installation was done to allow vj with single output to feed the 3 beamers. Than i have almost just enjoy the party.

Forum UNESCO ( Monterey , mexico )
In September last year , i have been commissioned per sietemedia.com.mx , to work on an installation place in the lounge area of the UNESCO forum , taking place in Monterey ( Mexico). Sietemedia was in charge of the multimedia part of several place in the forum and they had already an idee , the goal of the installation was to bring people to participate to the event. They imagined a system alowing people to draw by hand on a sand table , a light was place under this table , and a camera on the roof shooting the light drawing , then it was project on a circular screen. Sietemedia gave to me a total freedom to interpret the drawing . I wasn´t very happy of the constraint first, but after several day of brainstorming i had the idee to use a simple feedback effect, inspire from the treeback patch from vvvv to create nice mandala like patern based on the drawing of the people, the result was interesting at my eyes so i did realise it…
It was an awesome trip to Mexico , with lovely people , the forum was taking place in the park fundidora , old metal industrial area , recycle into a huge beautifull park, i meeted very much people there, incredibly kind , tasted local speciality like real tacos and bouritos and also reel tequila, i can´t wait to go back…
Below you can see the park fundidora , the night around the main old industry their was a show still in rehursal before the opening of the forum with a big light show and giant moving puppet… I also meeted some nice local girls, shame on me, i don´t remenber her name (edit : it was Lizeth )…

I´ll fly to Zagreb this night for a gig , i will perform Friday with the great onoxo , again on a four screen setup wowww , the music will be Nocturnal ,a london based drum and bass band .
My new fresh asus laptop is already dead after only 6 month of use , it has just make a cloud of smoke and … , well i hope everything will be fine since this time i will use only one computer to generate the 4 screen visual and 1 more output for the interface .
There is also a showcase of realtime audiovisual work , called Videoskop , where i will make a short performance of 10 mn , and also onoxo and other artists.

The last weekend i played with a vertex shader functionnality who allow me to use the color data from a texture , to interact with the vertex position of the mesh . This technic is call texture lookup , it´s working with vertexshader 3.0 but only on nvidia card …
This is very interesting and allow fast morphing between highresolution mesh .
In this different screenshoot , i start from a grid , i aply to the vertex position the parametric equation of a sphere and give to the lengts of the sphere the channel r of the texture , the texture input for the texture lookup is a directx renderer so my mesh evolve in the time since the renderer is animated , in adition to the vertex transformation, i add a pixelcolorisation with a second renderer ,creating the color texture. I would like to add later on bumpmapping and reflection effect but i need to find a way to compute the normal .
the effect is performant and allow me morphing and fast vertex transformation with a grid compose of 160000 vertices , it´s a new way for generating mesh , since you can use the 4 channel (rgb + alpha) of a texture to store data ,data who can be use to do anything in the vertexshader.
It´s a quite performant and interesting way to generate shape…

Multiscreens Live visual @ Paysages Electroniques
Last week i was in France for the great audiovisual event Paysages electroniques ( Lille ).
I have meet a lot of cool vj , Abendprozessor , Mfo , Aalto , Crustea , Emovie , Telematique
Perfect organization,and exellent visual for three days.
I have to say many thanks to the organizer zelabo who have allow me to do this 4 screens performance .
I have also created a new page “live visual / Booking” you can see there picture of my live act content
A friend of mine , shooted all the performance , unfortunately the tape is full of dv bug and so i had to take the tape from the organizer to be able to shown a video of the performance .
I don´t like to show my face on videos but there where not very much rush without my face so i have choose to use all the rush …
Paysages electroniques #3

“HAVE SOME FUN WITH TECHNOLOGY!”
During four days, musicians, dj, vj, artists, performers… will be bring together around this leitmotiv. Abréaction association, organizer of this festival, wants to remind us that the creation is first talent and joy, and the technology is a tool which is able to show up inspiring influence and amusement.

I will perform there the friday o6 of april , on 4 screens my first visual set in superwide format and ultra high resolution 4096*768 pixel.
I have already make some test on a good pc with 2 graphic card configure in spanmode , an that´s work just fine at fullframe rate (60fps) with this resolution .
That´s will be my first gig with my new tool to generate visual , based on the vertexshader technologie , and a complex system of spread.
I will also do a presentation of my favourite software vvvv , around 18h.

Supaformula v2.0 and highres shoot

I´m actually working on a new version of the superformula shader with more feature , for exemple i use a first superformula in 2d and after i apply a 3d deformation on the 2d one, this feature allow me to create a huge range of mesh , perfect flowers … and in the idee to make large print , i work on high resoltution screenshoot of that stuff and of my old stuff too , of the most interresting peace with a resolution bigger than 10000 * 10000 pixel.
I´m working on a new audiovisual project with a musicien from Berlin Fabien Laumer aka Nu , the visual part is mostly based on my last experimentation with the vertex shader , the music part is experimental minimal techno, video coming soon.

Ciant.cz / Praha
CIANT has been active since 1998 at the international level in the field of culture, education and research related to new technologies. CIANT operates a multimedia art laboratory focused on interdisciplinary collaboration, especially innovative experiments and development in domain of interactive media.
I will be there the 6 december for a vvvv presentation/workshop and i will perform a short piece.

I will perform for the Clubtoclub 2006 (international Festival of electronic music and art ), the 11 november , in the supermarket club for Ricardo Villalobos , Cassy , and the Pures.

Nomadix relaunch

For the nomadix relaunch project i have coached 3 students from the school of art Hyperwerk (Basel, Switzerland). The goal was to design a new audiovisual content of a previous installation: nomadix. The Nomadix installation is composed of seven inflatable, motorized “screens” with a shape of a cone. The devices are made of a beamer, a computer, speakers, and a motor for each of the two axis of rotation.

Math surface destrukt

Sphere harmonics destrukt

The sphere harmonics is a math surface with 8 parameters, you can see a good paper and some examples of meshes on the paul bourke website. It´s similar to the super formula but with less possibilities. I have just tried to destruct it like with the superformula.

Superformula

Since one week i try to implement the superformula in a vertex shader.
Now the equation works (thanks to tonfilm) but the hard part is to calculate the normals.
The screenshots are done with a simple point shading, without normals.
